About this event

The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) Center for New Directions in Politics and Public Policy (New Directions) and the Auraria Library will sponsor a workshop entitled Engaging Communities Thru Public Policy, Politics & Big Data on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Student Commons Building on the CU Denver campus. The purpose of the workshop is to have participants learn to use a Public Policy System Model to understand and manage Big Data for developing public policy.

The workshop will focus on three areas: Presenting the Public Policy System Model; Learning the process for using Big Data to form policy; and applying this learning through a hands-on activity using their respective laptop computers. The presenters will be Dr. Diane Fritz, a geospatial data scientist with the Auraria Library and Director of the Data to Policy Project (D2P) and Dr. Steve DelCastillo, Director of the Center for New Directions in Politics and Public Policy. The D2P program provides technical assistance to private and public organizations in research and evaluation by engaging students.

Dr. DelCastillo has developed the Public Policy System Model to help community members understand the political processes and systems by which legislation and public policies are developed and implemented. He has taught in the field of political economy and is developing a course focused on Politics and Public Policy.

Participants may request a full refund until June 13, 2023, no refunds thereafter.
