EcoLab: Furniture Design + Functional Art from Salvage ARCH 6377

EcoFab is a green-build course in which students design and fabricate eco-furniture, architecture elements, clothing, a product prototype, or other unique items of their own creation and making.
Salvage, recycled and found objects, material surplus, vintage, and discards are the sources for creative inspiration and use.
From design through cleaning and finishing, eco techniques are taught and applied. Beautiful, powerful work is produced by adhering to the rule: Find, don’t buy.
In this course, students are taught to –
Work fearlessly and without inhibitionConsider that mistakes and odd ideas may be the best design pathsBuild real joints, details, and connections using steel, wood, and other materialsApply green techniques in all phases of work, from modelbuilding to finishingUse local sources for salvage and construction by visiting waste feedstock sitesUnderstand that enjoyment of work yields the highest quality projectHelp clean the environment while making beautiful, functional art.
