The National Dance Theatre Company is a voluntary organization of dancers, singers, musicians, technicians and administrators of diverse professional backgrounds. Formed in 1962 by Rex Nettleford and Eddy Thomas, the company’s extensive repertoire reflects a long tradition of dance and music describing Jamaica’s ancestral underpinnings and the establishment of dance as an art form rooted in contemporary cultural realities of Jamaica and the Caribbean. The company members are guided by the belief that dance, music and song will help to promote cultural awareness while fostering nation building through commitment, dedication, discipline and sustained application.
