This exhibit is all about exploring and celebrating the deep connections between Arizona’s Indigenous communities and their agricultural traditions, offering a rich historical perspective and a glimpse into the contemporary practices that sustain these cultural lifeways today.


Come discover how these communities have thrived for over 4,000 years, learn about farming practices unique to Arizona's diverse ecosystems, and dive into the important ongoing story of water rights in the Southwest. It is a fascinating journey through history, food, and culture that you won’t want to miss!

Meryl McMaster: Bloodline is a survey exhibition featuring the pioneering large-scale photographic works of Canadian artist Meryl McMaster (b. 1988), reflecting her mixed nêhiyaw(Plains Cree)/Siksika, Dutch, and British ancestry. This exhibition spans McMaster’s past accomplishments (2008-2019) and her recent explorations (2022-2023) of family histories, particularly those of her Plains Cree/Métis female forebears from the Red Pheasant Cree Nation in present-day Saskatchewan, Canada. This will be the first major solo exhibition of Meryl McMaster’s work outside of Canada. McMaster interrogates colonial histories, residential schools, and ancestral trauma, re-creating and re-imagining oral histories and stories in reclamation.

Over the weekend of January 24-26, 2025, the Shops at Norterra in North Phoenix will host a local version of Sedona’s popular Oak Creek Arts & Crafts Shows. Featuring demonstrations by artists, an interactive art installation, live entertainment, and more, the Shops at Norterra Art Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, admission is free.

A key highlight of the Shops at Norterra Art Festival is the diverse assortment of art and handcrafted items on display and available for purchase, including paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry, and Native American pieces. Artists at the event will be providing demonstrations of how they create their works, offering firsthand insight into the artistic process. Attendees will also have the opportunity to join in creating new works of art by painting on three large interactive murals, which will be raffled off at the end of the festival. In addition to the incredible art on display, the festival will feature a vibrant atmosphere with live entertainment, including a dynamic drum circle that invites audience participation and performances by various talented musicians.

The Shops at Norterra Art Festival is the latest event presented by Marlo Johnson Promotions, a Sedona, Ariz.-based group that seeks to provide inspiring venues for the finest local artisans, craftspeople, and vendors.

The Arizona Bao and Dumpling Festival is returning for its 7th year with the Fried Chicken and Wings Festival. Our goal is to help small businesses grow and a place for people to discover new foods and try new items. Fried chicken is enjoyed throughout the world and every culture has their own twist on it. With one ticket, you can enjoy a variety of fried chicken, wings, dumplings, and bao. What is a bao? From Food Republic, a bao or known as a steamed bun or baozi is a "complete meal conveniently packed away in a white, warm, soft bun." Or what we like to say, an amazing delicious experience. Baos are a form of dumplings and you can try different dumplings from various cultures from takoyaki to potstickers. Come both days to get your fill of dumplings and wings. This global inspired food festival is about showcasing small businesses and their creativity!

Verde Canyon Railroad is proud to be a sponsor of the Phoenix-based wildlife rescue, Liberty Wildlife. All are welcome to visit Verde Canyon Railroad depot for Raptors at the Rails, an educational presentation on the patio on select dates 11:00am-12:45pm. This free event prior to the train’s 1:00 pm departure features close-up glimpses of Arizona raptors such as eagles, hawks, owls, vultures, falcons and kestrels, amazing residents of Liberty Wildlife’s educational program. During the summer months, Liberty shares cold-blooded creatures such as tortoises, lizards and snakes during "Reptiles at the Rails".
