Floating seeds roam the drylands, intending to make deep forms. Floating seeds are vessels searching for potential life, simultaneously suspended and rooted, architects of their own making. We find floating seeds at the porous intersections of landscape and architecture, visually manifesting their underlying networks, ecosystems, and cultures. Making deep forms is a way of reworlding—an attempt to view things differently—refuting binary order to speculate the future. Floating seeds make deep forms on a path toward becoming, being, and knowing by reflecting the complexity of their entangled networks and testing their existence. Floating seeds make deep forms through new structures that emerge as palpable auras of transformation.

Los Angeles-based artist Cybele Lyle explores place and identity by reconfiguring architecture, interior space, and the natural environment in her installation, video, and 2D works. Her first solo museum exhibition, _Floating Seeds Make Deep Forms_, is a site-specific installation that reimagines deserts of North America as liminal expanses for ambiguity within a regenerative ecosystem and positions architecture through the lens of queer space, a responsive site to the natural evolution of identity and environment.

SMoCA’s _Architecture + Art_ series presents ground-breaking projects by individuals whose work explores and challenges the boundaries between architecture and art. Organized by Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and curated by Lauren R. O’Connell, curator of contemporary art. This artwork is commissioned following W.A.G.E. guidelines. This December, Phoenix Art Museum will present the work of one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century in Richard Avedon: Among Creatives.


Drawn from the collection of the Center for Creative Photography (CCP) in Tucson, the exhibition presents more than 50 photographs by Richard Avedon (1923-2004), highlighting his distinctive large-scale portraits of fellow creative icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Marian Anderson, Paul McCartney and other celebrity subjects, in addition to his contributions to fashion photography.


Richard Avedon: Among Creatives will be on view at the Museum from December 6 – May 25, 2025.

You shared + we listened! After hearing directly from our visitors about a desire for more late-night hours during the weekdays, Phoenix Art Museum will stay open late on Thursdays and Fridays beginning in October, including for monthly First Fridays.


Effective October 2, 2024 (exactly two weeks from today!) the Museum will be open: ⁠

Monthly First Friday programming will include voluntary-donation general admission, discounted rates to view special-engagement exhibitions, two resident DJs, in-gallery sketching with Aileen Martinez, cash bar + food vendors, and more.

Broadway in London 2024/2025 Season

Katie Wilhelm and Summer Bressette are based in London, Ontario, and have been creative collaborators since 2021. They champion Indigenous knowledge with its deep roots in environmental care. Their new single-channel digital video, called Baapaagimaak, takes its name from the Anishinaabemowin word for the endangered Black Ash tree, a native species which in recent years has been decimated by an invasive insect, the Emerald Ash Borer.

Working in dialogue with Curator of Art Cassandra Getty, the artists made this project for display in the large windows in Centre at the Forks, overlooking the river. The river water, like the Black Ash, is life and supports life; its flow symbolizes change and renewal over time. Baapaagimaak: Weaving Endurance is the result of an outdoor basket weaving workshop led by Faye George who is an artist from the Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, and ongoing land-based research by the artists.

Join us on the third Friday of every month for one of downtown Phoenix's signature, ongoing art events. 


While similar in programming to First Fridays, Third Fridays are also known as “Gallery Night.” Many arts destinations and businesses open up, and the visiting crowds are decidedly more arts-focused.

The LPGA Tour announced that Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass will host the 2025 Arizona Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass. The tournament will be held March 27-30, and will feature a field of over 100 players competing for a $2.25 million purse, with $300,000 awarded to the winner.


The LPGA Tour is no stranger to competing in Arizona, visiting the Grand Canyon State more than 70 times since its inception in 1950. In the inaugural year of the LPGA Championship, Nelly Korda became the first LPGA Tour player in eight years to win three straight starts, shooting a 7-under 65 to rally for for a two-stroke victory in the 2024 Ford Championship.

In celebration of Reggae Month, the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ), in partnership with the [International Reggae Poster Contest (IRPC)](https://reggaepostercontest.com/), proudly presents the _30th Art of Reggae Exhibition_. Mark your calendars for **Sunday, February 23, 2025**, when the exhibition opens at the **National Gallery of Jamaica, 12 Ocean Boulevard, at 1:00 PM**. Guests will also be treated to a special performance by the talented musicians from the **Alpha School of Music**.

## **Honoring Reggae’s Influence on Hip Hop**

This year’s exhibition will feature the **top 100 submissions** from the **9th International Reggae Poster Contest**, centred around the theme **“The Jamaican Roots of Hip Hop.”** The collection pays tribute to the legendary **Clive Campbell, aka DJ Kool Herc**, the Jamaican-born innovator who laid the foundation for hip hop culture.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1955, Campbell migrated to the Bronx, New York, at age 12, bringing with him the deep musical influence of Jamaica’s sound system culture. Inspired by Jamaican DJs like U-Roy, King Stitt, and Count Matchuki, he revolutionized music by rapping over riddims and perfecting the instrumental break—leading to the creation of the breakbeat, the very heartbeat of hip hop.

## **The Mission of the IRPC**

Founded in 2011 by the late **Michael Thompson and Maria Papaefstathiou**, the International Reggae Poster Contest (IRPC) is a global celebration of reggae and its far-reaching cultural impact. The contest serves a greater purpose—advocating for the establishment of a Reggae Hall of Fame museum and performance center in Kingston, Jamaica. Additionally, it aims to raise awareness and support for **The Alpha Institute** (formerly Alpha Boys School), a vocational institution run by the Sisters of Mercy. The school provides holistic education and training for underprivileged youth, nurturing the next generation of musicians and creatives.

Join us as we celebrate **reggae, hip hop, and Jamaica’s enduring musical legacy**. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a reggae lover, or simply curious about the roots of hip hop, this exhibition is not to be missed!

Dragon Boat Racing is a unique water sports activity that is sure to provide everyone an exciting experience. And yes - even the audience!

Dragon Boat is (usually) a 10-row boat that allows 20 paddlers to paddle in unison, with room for a drummer at the front and a steers person at the back, and the entire boat racing towards the finish line.

This fun-filled, adrenaline pumping competition may have originated in Southern China, but today, Dragon Boat races are held worldwide. It even found its way to a modern man-made lake in the middle of the Arizona desert - the Tempe Town Lake.
