Ellis School of Martial Arts - ESMA Tae Kwon Do

ESMA Tae Kwon Do is a new and dynamic martial arts organization that has been making impressive strides and establishing an enviable reputation in a relatively short time.

Martial arts provide endless opportunities for healthy physical engagement, personal development and fulfilling social interaction. It's a sport, it is entertainment, and it's a discipline. It's also an activity that promotes respect and honour.

Tae Kwon Do, which is the national sport of Korea, is one the most popular forms of martial arts and ESMA offers top quality training for adults, teens and tiny tots in this exciting discipline.

At ESMA's two locations (Kingston and Portmore), students as young as 3 years old have fun, make friends and learn vital self defence techniques while advancing in this exciting and entertaining competitive sport which is also an Olympic event. ESMA students have entertained, inspired and captured attention in their participation in local tournaments in recent months, winning several medals and trophies.

Our ESMA logo has its origin in the Akan culture of West Africa, and is the Adinkra symbol of support, cooperation and encouragement. It means WOFORO DUA PA A - or "when you climb a good tree", and is taken from the expression "Woforo dua pa a, na yepia wo" meaning "When you climb a good tree, you are given a push". More metaphorically, it means that when you work for a good cause, you will get support.
