oin M.I.T. graduate, physician, and artist Mary Strawn from The Walter Hive for a hands-on workshop inspired by Dutch painting techniques and the expressive art of blind contour drawing.
Participants will explore how Dutch artists captured light, shadow, and detail in their work, while embracing the spontaneity of blind contour drawing to create their own unique masterpieces.
About the Teaching Artist
Mary Strawn is a retired physician of pediatrics and a long-standing member of the local art community. She has shown work with several national and international watercolor organizations, specializing in portraiture. Strawn established The Walter Hive in 2016 as a non-profit that provides expressive arts programs to people of all ages and backgrounds. Workshops include a wide range of creative modalities, such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, collage, welding and woodworking. She leads with a knowledgeable understanding and believes that art is about the process rather than the product. Every one of us has the ability to create something unique our own way.
